Interim Dean: Nasser Michaëlene Gabryel
The Faculty brings together languages and professions. Its linguistic division, the LUIGI PAREYSON LANGUAGE CENTRE, bears the name of the philosopher of formativity: Baudouin de Courtenay thought about language, Pareyson about the art of forming. The Faculty also hosts training for the security professions.

Jan Niecisław Baudouin de Courtenay
Born in Radzymin in 1845 into a family of French descent, and dying in Warsaw in 1929, Jan Niecisław Baudouin de Courtenay founded the Kazan school of linguistics, then taught at Dorpat, Kraków, Saint Petersburg and finally Warsaw. With his student Mikołaj Kruszewski, he gave the phoneme the meaning that linguists recognise today. He separated language, made of abstract elements, from speech, which puts it to work in the mouth of each speaker, a distinction that Saussure was formulating on his side in Geneva. The phonological schools of Leningrad, Moscow and Prague grew out of his work. The Faculty bears his name because the science of signs underpins the knowledge and the professions it teaches, from speech to artificial intelligence.
